How to Stop Procrastinating

Funny how I got across to this topic from ehow.com. You should find sometime to check out the site. Anyway, here’s the article. :) Enjoy reading

“There’s an old joke that the members of Procrastinators Anonymous keep meaning to meet … but keep putting it off.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

Things You’ll Need:

Step 1:
Think about why you procrastinate: Are you afraid of failing at the task? Are you a perfectionist and only willing to begin working after every little element is in place? Are you easily distracted?

Step 2:
Break up a large, difficult project into several smaller pieces. Tackle each piece separately.

Step 3:
Set deadlines for completion. Try assigning yourself small-scale deadlines ‘ for example, commit to reading a certain number of pages in the next hour.

Step 4:
Work in small blocks of time instead of in long stretches. Try studying in one- to two-hour spurts, allowing yourself a small break after each stint.

Step 5:
Start with the easiest aspect of a large, complex project. For example, if you’re writing an academic paper and find that the introduction is turning out to be hard to write, start writing the paper’s body instead.

Step 6:
Enlist others to help. Make a bet with your family, friends or co-workers that you will finish a particular project by a specified time, or find other ways to make yourself accountable.

Step 7:
Eliminate distractions or move to a place where you can concentrate. Turn off the television, the phone ringer, the radio and anything else that might keep you from your task.

Tips & Warnings

  • Remember that progress, not perfection, is your goal.
  • Track your goals on a calendar or in a personal organizer. Keep your goals reasonable and check off each one when you are finished.

- sounds easy huh??

Kids On-Line 3D Community Addresses Short Falls in Children’s Education Worldwide

Honululu, Hawaii, Kids on-line 3D entertainment is set to take on a new direction with the launch of the Greanwold community for children in September 2008. Greanwold takes a refreshing step in on-line interactivity by being specifically designed to educate while engaging kids in a fun and safe learning environment.

A little over 12 months ago developers began to brainstorm the idea of creating the Greanwold on-line community for kids. The inspiration behind creating Greanwold came from the recognition that despite children being avid users of the Internet general levels of literacy and numeracy continue to decline worldwide. With that in mind Greanwold developers have set out to design an on-line virtual environment that seeks to address these global short falls in a new and exciting way.

On-line communities for children generally provide entertainment, offering a mix of games and social networking features. Greanwold has taken this basic concept and added an extra level of interactivity with its unique on-line tutoring functionality. This enables kids to chat in real time with an on-line tutor who will tailor educational assistance to an individual’s specific needs. “Greanwold’s qualified tutors have designed their curriculum to suit varied regional requirements and will cater for the specific needs of an individual child regardless of where they live,” says Charles Lawrence, CEO of Greanwold.

Greanwold games continue on an educational theme being based on real life activities such as employment, managing businesses, buying houses and general money management. Children navigateGreanwold by adapting characters to suit their own personality and can create original content for the site including music and drama. “Creating this world and tying in real world features makes a game atmosphere that can help teach kids many of the basic life lessons while exploring their own personal creativity. Greanwold provides an opportunity for kids to learn things that schools no longer focus on while having fun and adventure,” says Lawrence.

High on the checklist for any parent are well-founded concerns for their children’s safety when engaging in social networking features such as chat. Greanwold has utilized advanced technology in their chat facilities that automatically block any malicious or personal information from being exchanged. Live on-line assistance is also provided, adding a further level of protection for children’s safety.

“Our goal is to provide a unique exciting learning environment for children across the world,” says Lawrence. “We believe that children are discerning Internet users and the limit for their potential to learn is determined by the scope of opportunities we present to them. We have developed Greanwold with the expressed aim of broadening the opportunities for children around the world”.

After all…It’s A Small World..

It’s a world of laughter
A world of tears
It’s a world of hopes
And a world of fears
There’s so much that we share
That it’s time we’re aware
It’s a small world after all

There is just one moon
And one golden sun
And a smile means
Friendship to ev’ryone
Though the mountains divide
And the oceans are wide
It’s a small world after all

It’s a small world after all
It’s a small world after all
It’s a small world after all
It’s a small, small world

Woooohhhh!!!!!!!!

I never thought that I would still be “found” despite of evading people. So here I am, in this small office, doing stuffs, and looking for some files - when I accidentally opened a folder of pictures.

The contents were puzzling. Not because the images are abstract pieces but personal pictures of someone I know, but doesn’t know me. A sister of a college instructor. In my office laptop. What the heck.

At first I was thinking that, maybe it’s not her. Maybe they just look alike. And then I saw a Word Document that says “HRM”. I opened the file and saw the name. Good heavens! So, siya nga yun talaga.

My mind’s racing by that time, on how the hell happened that his sister’s pictures would be stored in this laptop? It was then that I remembered a person who works in this place with the same name as my instructor’s father. I was like - could it be him? Yeah right. After asking around, I was more than sure that it is really his dad.

Goodness. I felt that I was doomed.

But again, this place may not be ideal for others, but my work is as clean as a white paper. I’m doing no illegal nor immoral.

I guess, I’m just afraid to be judged - as a budding careerwoman.

Personal Note:

I’m missing my baby - she’s on vacay.

Impressive!

I must say, I was impressed how things went on since I’ve abandoned this blog site for quite some time. I wasn’t really blogging thru wordpress back then. - I was using Friendster’s, but thanks to brownmestizo (@ brownmestizo.net - check out his brown thoughts), I’m now using a better service.A former college mate notified me that Kapitan’s blog is still existing - in fact, it’s blooming with love (I guess he is inlove, again. Nice.). Last semester, we have created our wordpress accounts so we could publish our articles for the college’s official publication, but instead, it became a personal blog for us. I can’t speak for others, but mine has been like that since then.  For other impressive things, I get to try a tablet drawing pad. Uh, whatever it is called. The one graphic artists use for doodling? That’s it. It’s sooo cute. And pretty amazing. Not that I’m much of an artist. I’ll find a use for it.Another impressive thing - I’m using a Mac laptop for the meantime, here at work. This goddamn machine costs about 100,000 pesos and so cool. A little bit disorienting, but since the interface is Vista-like, it only took a while for me to play with it. Very interactive and great for doing multimedia stuff. I think I’ll buy one when I can afford it.  So, as my closing impressive thing to mention - the sunrise this morning. I noticed that today’s sunrise is much earlier than the other days, and at 9.30am it’s already scorching hot. Lucky I have my purple umbrella with me. Why purple? It symbolizes power. Hahaha.Impressive day, isn’t it?

Career = Job?

When I was a fresh high school grad, I didn’t know what course I should take. My parents were insurance agents at that time, thus my exposure to sales and marketing is incredibly great. But I’m not fond of selling things. I’m more of a shopper. Hahaha.I was into computers at that time, chatting in Stone Age MIRC, using beta versions of Internet Explorer, have actually used WordStar and Lotus123 as word processors and spreadsheet applications, experienced the super slow Windows 95, 98, 2000, ME (Mistake Edition, lol), and finally the culture shocking XP.For a span of a certain time, I thought my future would depend on those machines. But aside from that, I fancy answering calls for my parents if the secretary is out of her cubicle. I find telephone operators’ voices cute. Haha. And now, I’m barely out of college. I’m saying barely, cause I ain’t out of it yet, technically speaking. I was first choosy where to look for work, but as my dough runs out, each day I was getting desperate than yesterday to have a job that would suffice my needs. There was one night, when I came home around 11pm. I was too tired to eat so I went to bed and rest. I wasn’t really sleepy and it came across my mind - “What do I really want?”The answers came the next day when I woke up. I just want to be useful, not useless. I wanted to help, to be progressive not idle.I want to have my own place, my own things and give my family a better life. Vague description right? Some say, it’s being materialistic, but I say it’s my way of setting goals. I know I can do better, when I see something done.So much for bumming around.

It’s Been A While

…since the last time I wrote something seriously. There was so much that has been going on in real life - so much that I have to abandon this virtual space of mine. Well, I’m glad to be back. So, a quick roll on what happened to me - for the last 2 months. My daughter was hospitalized for 6 days - i was so grateful she recovered quickly. She’s still taking medications right now, but hopefully, she’ll bounce after 3 more months. Just three more, baby.I finally get to work. Though I won’t say yet where my work is, I’m just glad that every morning I wake up from the day I was hired was a makeup day for the bummer days I’ve spent. Yee-hah!!!I saw Judith Kay last March 1. And golly, she definitely gained weight!! Well, she really deserves it. Go girl!Won’t fill you up on my love life’s drama. That’s reserved for TV already. Hahaha. No, really, I won’t blog much about it anymore.Less info, less talks, no gossips. :)
